So What’s It Going To Be?

2023 is here. Another year of your life has passed and it is forever beyond your reach. Did you live it to its fullest?

» Did you grab your moments of happiness and wrestle them to the ground?

» Did you open your heart to a vaster and deeper experience of what love truly is?

» Did you stretch your ability to feel and experience wonder?

» Did you reveal more of yourself to your loved ones… and to the world?

As the year came to a close, these were the questions that I asked myself.

At the heart of it: Did I become a truer and more beautiful version of myself this year?

Because to me, this is it, my friends. This is the reason for life, for this human experience. This is why we are all here: to know ourselves more deeply. When we pursue an authentic life, a few things happen:

  • We have closer relationships with others. We cultivate connection.

  • We reveal more of our natural gifts to the world, and therefore, experience more success.

  • We have more meaning, connection, and wonder in our lives. We wake up liking ourselves and looking forward to each day.

  • We take responsibility for giving ourselves the experience of life that we desire & becoming the person that we truly want to be.

In light of the New Year, I ask you, just as I am asking myself: What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Is this the year that you will take the other path - the one that calls to your heart? Is this the chapter of your life when you start living for yourself?

Will you forever look back and mark this day as the day that everything changed? The moment that you said, “F*ck it, I’m in”. I’m in for ALL of it - the deepest, juiciest and truest version of my life. 2023, it’s on.

I believe that by each of us coming home to who we really are - we will make the world a better place. In fact, I believe that this is the only way we can change the world. It starts with each one of us. It starts in our hearts (and our guts).

In service of my belief in this work, I’ve designed a DIY Coaching Course called: How To Be Human: Vital Skills For Living An Authentic Life.

Let’s face it - the most important stuff, the things that are core to the human experience, we are rarely taught. Although all of us struggle with the same core elements of being human, but we rarely talk about it. I’m done with that. Let’s bring it out into the open and give it some air. Let’s learn what we need to learn so that we can lead powerful lives filled with greater joy and ease.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Last night I released the first series in this course called: The Stories We Tell Ourselves. This is a 9-part DIY Coaching Course that I guarantee will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Download For FREE

My decade of experience coaching individuals all over the world has taught me that understanding the concept of internal storytelling is an essential part of personal transformation.

I’ll be releasing additional series in the How To Be Human: Vital Skills For Living An Authentic Life course throughout 2023, and all of it will be completely free.

Join me on my social media channels as I journey through the curriculum alongside you.

With so much love and care from the bottom of my heart, may 2023 be your year.

I know damn well it’s going to be mine - because, as my good buddy Abe said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

You are in charge. Roll the dice.

Your Holiday Weekend Challenge

12/23/2022

Your Holiday Weekend Challenge
This weekend as you move through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I invite you to release any preconceived notions of how things “should” be. It’s easy to allow old family values or cultural stories to creep into our expectations and judgments around the holidays. This decreases our sense of joy and peace.
How would your holiday weekend be different if you focused on accepting whatever presented itself, rather than judging it, resisting it, or trying to change it? What if you decided to celebrate and delight (to the best of your ability) in every part of your weekend?

Alone this holiday? Create the best ‘party of one’ you’ve ever had. Cook yourself dinner, have a movie marathon, or karaoke loud enough to disrupt your neighbors.

With difficult family members this holiday? Wrap yourself in your own love and acceptance and focus on allowing any comments that don’t jive with you to roll right past you. Activate curiosity within yourself, and remember that every single time that someone says something they are allowing you to peek into their inner world and understand them better.

Stressed or tired from the holiday rush and prep? Ask for help. Allow yourself to rest. Make any changes that you need to make in order to be fully present throughout the weekend. Give yourself what you need.

With loving friends and family over the weekend? Challenge yourself to open your heart to deeper intimacy and more expansive love. Tell people how you really feel about them. Take the risk, and go for the depth in your relationships that shakes you to the bone and alters your DNA.
Above all, know that YOU MATTER. You are so incredibly beautiful, talented, and wise. You have never really moved backward, you have never lessened… you have only become more awakened and increasingly resilient. You are closer now to the full realization of everything you truly are. You deserve everything that you’ve been dreaming about. You are entering into a chapter of your life that has more love and fulfillment than you ever imagined.
Happy Holidays,

Happy Tuesday

Hello, my fellow humans. I hope that this newsletter finds you well. As I was trail running at my local park and enjoying the beauty of the changing seasons (picture below), I was thinking of ways to increase my focus and productivity. For me, an assessment is required just about every month to keep myself operating at my highest level of ease, health & productivity.

The truth is that the big vast world out there is constantly pushing in on us - with thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and distractions that might not be in our highest good. It’s our job to continually re-center. Below I’ve made a few notes on things that have worked for me in my pursuit to reclaim my power, my productivity, and my well-being. I hope they can help you in your own journey of being human.

"The average attention span for the notoriously ill-focused goldfish is nine seconds, but according to a new study from Microsoft Corp., people now generally lose concentration after eight seconds, highlighting the affects of an increasingly digitalized lifestyle on the brain." - Time Magazine, May 2015

This quote is frightening, and I'm sure that you've felt the effects. Time seems to be speeding up, and every day can feel rushed and frenetic. The pressure is greater, and the productivity is less.

So, how do you begin to
reclaim your time and focus? Start here

First and foremost, you must end your slavery to your electronics. If you don't think you are addicted to your electronics - try one (or all) of these things and notice the response in your body:

  • Leave your phone plugged in outside of your bedroom when you go to bed at night

  • Make a commitment to not looking at your phone until after your morning routine (breakfast/ exercise/ meditation/ journaling- whatever you do to stay healthy and sane)

  • Leave your phone at home while you run errands, go out with friends, or go for a hike

  • Don't look at your phone while you are standing in lines or waiting for an appointment

  • Make a commitment to not look at work emails before your start time, and after your clock-out time

  • Spend one entire day electronic-free. Put your phone, laptops and tablets away and spend an entire day connecting with your loved ones and the environment around you.

As you know, I’m a seeker. I’m deeply fascinated by life, love, consciousness, and the experience of being human. I could talk forever about entelechy - this dynamic purpose that is encoded within us, that which realizes or makes actual what is otherwise merely potential.

In service to, and delight of, that human potential, here are some of my musings from these past weeks:

Today, I want to remind you that good things are on their way & that there is a future chapter in your life that holds more joy & fulfillment than you can imagine from where you’re currently standing.

This week, may your moments of personal growth (your entelechy) arise right from the heart of all that is human; joy and sorrow, shopping list and unity consciousness, fresh mangoes and stale bread. May you take it all in as parts of the wonder of being alive.

SHINE

Hello, my fellow humans. This week I’ve been thinking about living and dying. I’ve been thinking about the process of authentically shining my light in the world, and what it feels like to stay small (and both safe and suffocated). As I often do, I’ve been sitting around, drinking tea, and thinking about what the heck this is all about - being human. This exploration has been the one true love affair of my life. Since I was 14 years old, I have filled hours hunting epiphanies and drinking coffee. You could say it’s my jam, baby.

Today is the eight-year anniversary of the day an intoxicated driver crossed the center divide and ran head-on into my car. It is the anniversary of the day I sat bleeding for hours trapped in the crumpled metal of my vehicle. As I sat in reflection this week, I pondered how trauma impacts people & imagined how compassion could change our society. You can read my musings here.

This quote (above) is often misattributed to Nelson Mandela, but was actually written by Marianne Williamson in her book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”. This is a famous quote, and it is no surprise why - because it speaks to the truth of the human experience, and truth can be felt in our hearts.

Being authentically yourself, and allowing that authentic self to shine as brightly as possible is the most courageous thing that you can do with your life. I believe that each of us has a yearning to do this - to live into our gifts as fiercely and unapologetically as possible, but the question is, exactly how do you become liberated from your own fear? How do you learn to freely allow your greatness to exercise sovereign power over your life and work?

Read more here.

This week, I want to remind you that life is short… and it might just be shorter than you think. We are not guaranteed any tomorrows.

Here’s the thing: there is this pull, this yearning inside each of us to become bigger than the smallness of our human flesh, to lead a life outside of this cage of expectations on our being. That thing, that pull in your gut - listen to it. Stop f*cking around and let it guide you to the life you were born to live.

I believe with my whole heart that what the world desperately needs right now is for people to come home to who they really are. That means you. It means me.

I know it’s hard because I am right there with you - in the arena, marred by blood, sweat, and dirt. Living authentically is hard, but we can do hard things.

Happy October!

Hello my fellow humans, and welcome to October. This past Saturday, October 1st, I went on a 21 mile hike near my home in Bend, Oregon. It was a beautiful way to welcome one of my favorite months of the year. I started in the darkness of the early morning hours and watched the sky awaken as my feet hit the trail. I adore long walks in nature, it allows my mind time to settle all of its thinking, and it leaves my body feeling limber and strong.

As I walked through the forest, I found myself reflecting on my life journey. I have often leaped out into the world on faith, trusting that the net would appear (and it always has). There have been times when others underestimated me, but I held my head high and remained focused on my goals, and there have been times when I have forgotten how to believe in myself, and I have relied on my tribe to believe in me and remind me who I am.

Ten years ago, the New York Times called me and asked to interview me about my successful coaching practice. I was thrilled! We did the interview, and then I waited on pins and needles for the article to hit the stands. When it did, not only was the article not celebrating me (as I had expected), it was disparaging me. At 33, I was featured in an article entitled, “Should A Life Coach Have A Life First?”. I decided to finally answer that question, and reflect on how I’ve grown as a coach over the past decade. You can read my musings here.

On Sunday, as I cheered on my favorite NFL teams and crossed my fingers for a Fantasy Football win, I also worked on research for a new Emotional Intelligence Coaching Course I’ve been working on. I discovered that by developing your EQ, you can increase your income by an average of $29,000 per year (according to a recent study by Dr. Travis Bradberry). In fact, the data showed that EQ and earnings are so closely related that each point of your EQ correlates with an increase in salary of $1,300. You can read more about my research here, and if you’re interested in assessing your level of EQ, download my free EQ Self Assessment Worksheet.

This week, I want to remind you that you are worthy of everything that you’ve been dreaming about. You are safe, whole, and complete.

Buddha said, “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”

Lucille Ball said, “You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.”

Take it from two greats - loving yourself is a worthwhile endeavor.

Have a great week!

Happy Monday, My Friends

It is the start of another week of life. How do you feel?

Did you know that the average person lives about 4,732 weeks? Overall, that’s not much, and yet instead of feeling inspired by the preciousness of life, sometimes the circumstancing of living, the state of the world, and even the duties of daily survival can seem overwhelming.

Let’s face it, life can be hard. When life circumstances are tough, it’s easy to feel defeated. This is where resiliency kicks in. Resiliency is vital to anyone who is seeking to live a meaningful, fulfilling life.

Resiliency is the capacity of a person to maintain their core purpose and integrity in the face of dramatically changing circumstances. It is the ability not only to overcome setbacks but also to move forward stronger than before.

The first step towards becoming more resilient is to know yourself. It is impossible to ‘bounce back’ if you don’t know where you’re bouncing back to. When you know how to lean into your authenticity and allow the simple transparency of your needs and wisdom to direct your actions, life’s circumstances launch you forward rather than hold you back. By learning how to grieve honestly and not shrink back from the pain, you are no longer held hostage by life’s challenges.

As an entrepreneur, you not only have your own personal resiliency to manage, but you also must find a way to build resiliency into your business. This also begins at the core - with your company’s mission. When you have crystal-clear clarity on what your mission is, you have a compass to navigate your business through the storms of business ownership that are guaranteed to come.

Life provides all of us with opportunities to build our resiliency, burn off whatever is weighing us down, and become more and more the truest, most beautiful, versions of ourselves. My own life has been a brilliant triumph, an artwork of resiliency. Poverty, domestic violence, a brush with death, and serious burnout, you can read My Story here.

Authenticity and resiliency are two things that I know through and through. Not only has my life provided me with real-world lessons, but I’ve also sought out knowledge and education on these subjects. I believe they are the cornerstone of our potential.

I’m proud to announce that I’ve been developing a specific process to coach my clients efficiently and effectively in leading their most authentic lives. You can read more about the 3 A’s of Authenticity here.

This week, my hope for you is that you get closer to yourself, and by getting closer to yourself, you unveil more of life’s magic.

And if you are in a place where life feels uncomfortable, suffocating, or like it’s all falling apart - know that you’re okay. Falling apart is part of the process. It’s important to the journey. Feel all the feelings, surrender to uncertainty, and lean into your authenticity.

Have a great week!
